FAIRFAX, Va. — FVCbank (OBB:FRCV) announced the additions of two new financial professionals to lead the institution’s compliance and personnel departments — Michelle L. Buckles, as senior vice president and director of compliance, and Alberta A. Gibson, SPHR, as vice president and director of human resources.
In an effort to bolster its already talented team, FVCbank continues to attract and retain experienced bankers in support of on-going positive growth, as evidenced by the mid-year financial highlights released in September 2014.
Gibson and Buckles, two of the newest additions to the FVCbank, both most recently served as part of the executive leadership team for Southern National Bancorp of Virginia, Inc. (Sonabank), a Maryland/Virginia-based bank. With extensive leadership experience in the financial industry, both additions bring valuable knowledge and expertise to the FVCbank team.
“At FVCbank, we are dedicated to discovering and recruiting the most talented and knowledgeable staff to support our mission to make our clients successful,” said David W. Pijor, FVCbank Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Adding to our talented staff, Michelle Buckles brings extensive experience through her accomplished banking career and expertise in the area of compliance.”
With a diverse, 30-year banking career, Ms. Buckles spent most of that time in senior leadership positions with major financial institutions throughout Maryland and Virginia. Most recently, serving for six years with Sonabank, with her entire tenure spent at the senior vice president level with roles as compliance officer and internal auditor. Prior to her time with Sonabank, Ms. Buckles worked also at the senior vice president level for Sandy Spring Bank (formerly Potomac Bank of Virginia) as the Virginia regional manager, as well as serving as the district manager of the Virginia Central Region for Provident Bank (formerly Southern Financial Bank).
Ms. Buckles completed the Sheshunoff Compliance Officer Certification Program in June 2010, as well as the Audit and Compliance Training with Professional Bank Services and American Bankers Association – Small Business Certification.
FVCbank also welcomes Alberta A. Gibson, SPHR, as its new vice president and director of human resources. A nine-year member of the Sonabank leadership team, Ms. Gibson served as the vice president of Human Resources and as assistant to the president and CEO of the bank. Prior to her roles at Sonabank, Ms. Gibson was the assistant vice president of Commercial Services with Provident Bank (formerly Southern Financial Bank).
Ms. Gibson holds a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from State University of New York, with a major in Political Science and a minor in Sociology with a concentration in law and justice. In 2009, she became a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). In addition, Ms. Gibson is a national member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and serves as a Board member and treasurer for the Fauquier/Culpeper SHRM Chapter.
“The addition of Ms. Gibson allows us to continue to grow our team while providing the necessary human resources services to retain our highly qualified, experienced bankers,” stated Mr. Pijor. “Both of these additions to our team, makes FVCbank an even stronger financial institution and well-poised to continue on our steady growth trend for the benefit of our clients.”
